LOCATION & SITUATION

Stockport is a town located in Greater Manchester, north west of England, approximately 6.5 miles south-east of Manchester city centre. The town lies just south of the Manchester orbital M60 motorway, the major ring-road surrounding the city centre. The M60 intersects the A6 at Stockport, this connects the town with Manchester city centre to the north and other towns to the south east until the A6 ends at Derby.

Stockport has a mainline rail station providing West Coast Line services to Manchester Piccadilly within 10 minutes and Manchester Oxford Road within 15 minutes. Stockport is connected to Central London with Virgin Train services departing every 20 minutes with a journey time of 2 hours to London Euston. Stockport also has inter-city services to Sheffield, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol and other major cities. Stockport Council plan to spend over £70m as part of the Town Centre Access Plan. This aims to improve access within Stockport town centre easing congestion for buses and general road traffic. The scheme is also part of the wider £1 billion investment programme strategy to improve the vitality of the town centre and promote economic growth in Stockport. Works to widen St Mary’s Way, where the subject property is situated, commenced in 2015 and so far £20 million has been spent by the local council.

The catchment area of Stockport includes Manchester suburbs such as Reddish, Didsbury, Withington and Fallowfield in the south and Bramhall Park and Cheadle Hulme in the south west.
